Are you ready for summer???

May 25, 2007

Yesterday was the toughest day ever. I had two exams and both were connected with economics and business=( Everybody was going insane from fears that none will pass it and will forget the material…..

Finally, that day passed and i can have a rest for a couple days. I can’t even imagine that my freshman year passed so quickly. Funny memories, stupid things and just never ending chatting on the phone will be in my mind forever.I remember my first step into university…that weird feeling of something new and uncertainty. And then was a meeting with my new friends and teachers. wow …..that was so cool. Next year i will be a second year student. That is kind of a little privilege- everybody knows and you know everybody. And i hope we will have a lot of fun together.

I hope everybody gets good grades and will have a wonderful summer full of sun and fun.

The meaning of life is…enjoy it while you can.

May 11, 2007

Have you ever think about life? Why are we living and what for? It is hard to answer these questions. Finally, i found statetememnts by Mother Teresa.

Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is costly,care for it.
Life is wealth, keep it.
Life is mystery, know it.
Life is love, enjoy it.
Life is a promise, fulfil it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tregedy, confront it.
Life is an opportunity, benefit it.
Life is a beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is an advantage, dare it.
Life is luck,make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

I hope everyone will like it and keep it in memory.

What do you know about love?

May 5, 2007

orange.jpg Last night me and my friends were bored so we decided to watch a movie. We wanted to watch a scary movie or a thriller, but there were only “Orange Love”. Have you ever thing bout love?Of course you did. When the surrounding world seems like a stranger to you, sometimes you feel painfully alone in the middle of the endless rain. Your heart is breaking apart and then something can happen. That something is love, without doubt and its love for the rest of your life.

That movie was something incredible. It was totally different from others. Actors didn’t talk a lot, but background, soundtracks and movements were awesome. I was sitting in my chair and couldn’t move for the entire time, it was a magic!!!!

It tells the story about two people. They were escaping from a downpour and jumped onto an old Kiev trolley car. He was a young popular photographer. She was a dreamy cello student at the Conservatory. They felt in love,in real love without lie ,only real feelings. This love was special:stubborn, all-encompassing and all-destroying. Suddenly they discovered that she had SNID(sorry i don’t know how it is in English). Everything changed, she didn’t want to live anymore ,but he couldn’t live without her.So he decided to infect himself too…

Tears, desperate scream, happiness were in their hearts…but she got a letter from the hospital that her results were negative- she was healthy. Nothing could be change now.She left him, left him to die alone …

love.jpg

P.S. watch this movie and your entire world will turn upsidedown…just try it.

Every single detail is important=)

May 4, 2007

Hello everybody,

I was not able to write my blogs for a long time, because i came home for the May holidays and my Internet did not work. Sorry, for that=)

It is so nice to spend some time at home, just relax,be with my family and see all my friends. It is like paradise, where I always want to be. Even if I am living in Kiev now, i always eager to come home. It is a comfortable place where you are safe and free from the routine day. Especially, when i am leaving my family, i can see their eyes full of tears and happiness. They know they are loosing their only child, but they are happy for me. They just can’t except that their child is growing up and living her life by her own rules and ideas. I love my family very much and they are everything i live for!!!!

Russian cosmonaut dies in space crash

April 24, 2007

This day on the 24th of April in 1967:

”The Soviet Union has announced the catastrophic failure of its latest space mission, with the crash of Soyuz 1 and the death of the cosmonaut on board.

Colonel Vladimir Komarov, 40, is the first known victim of a space flight. He was an experienced cosmonaut, on his second flight, and had completed all his experiments successfully before returning to Earth.

But within seconds of landing, just after he re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere, the strings of the parachute intended to slow his descent apparently became tangled.

The spaceship hurtled to the ground from four miles up. It is likely that Colonel Komarov was killed instantly on impact.

Gold Star for heroism

A message of condolence from the Communist Party in Moscow described him as “a loyal son of our motherland and a courageous explorer of space.”

He has been decorated posthumously with a second Gold Star for heroism, and his ashes will be buried at the Kremlin wall – one of the highest honours accorded to a Soviet citizen.

News of the death of Colonel Komarov was greeted with regret and concern in the United States. The head of the US space programme, James Webb, called for greater cooperation in space exploration.

The team of 47 American astronauts working at Houston in Texas sent a telegram of condolence to their Russian rivals.

Mystery crash

The announcement from Moscow gave few details surrounding events leading up to the disaster, and there remain a number of mysteries surrounding the last moments of the doomed flight.

The Soyuz 1 is known to be a new and heavier type of spacecraft, built as part of the Soviet attempt to land a man on the Moon, and Colonel Komarov was thought to be testing it when the disaster happened.

Correspondents in Moscow had indications that all was not well with the flight from as early as yesterday, when earlier reports on Moscow Radio suddenly stopped and there was no mention of the space flight for nearly 13 hours.

Experts have questioned why Colonel Komarov did not use an ejection system to get out of the spacecraft. The cosmonaut was also known to have suffered from heart problems. “

What is the Research Paper?

April 21, 2007

“The research paper often looms like a mountain in the minds of students: a huge obstacle that can only be crossed with much agony and effort. But the research paper doesn’t need to be the Everest of your home schooling experience, and you certainly don’t have to die on its slopes. With proper preparation and a good basic understanding of paper development, you can conquer the research paper assignment and even enjoy yourself along the way.A research paper is an extended essay (eight to twenty-five pages, using three to ten outside sources) that summarizes information about a particular subject in order to prove a point.
Don’t think of the research paper as an “English” assignment. Depending on the topic you choose, the research paper is a science project, or a history project, or an art or literature project. The research paper isn’t a dreadful rite of passage demanded of all high school English students. Rather, it’s a tool for the student to use as he explores one of the content areas of the curriculum — something he’s interested in. It’s true that some of the skills needed to complete the research paper successfully are acquired in English study. But the paper itself should be ed on something the student is learning in another area of his curriculum: astronomy, the history of the Revolution, or Victorian novels.”

April 19, 2007

I had the same feeling, i did not how to start it and how it will look like. But during my preparation to the presentation i enriched my knowledge with a lot of information and found a useful articles. I never realized that it can so interesting, but i went deeper and deeper in my research. I have many things to write about, so i have to manage to show all my thoughts on my paper now.

Defeat in Russia

April 15, 2007

6.jpgI was very interesting if every day has a special place in a history. I was searching and found that this day(April 15) has a history too=)

Germany was fighting battles on two fronts. On the same day it was defending its western front at Dieppe, Hitler’s 6th Army was attacking Stalingrad in the east.

Soviet forces finally defeated the Germans on 2 February 1943, but only after massive losses on both sides. Almost one million soldiers died in some of the bloodiest fighting of the war.

“Paraskevidekatriaphobe”

April 13, 2007

(“Paraskevidekatriaphobe“-The name of my articleand it means a person with an irrational fear of Friday the 13th.)

As most people probably realize, today is Friday the 13th, a date commonly associated with bad luck. For the next couple hours, people all over the world will hold their breath anticipating misfortune and others will avoid leaving their houses. Did you know that floors in tall buildings often skip from 12 to 14???Many Christmas many years ago believed that Friday the 13th was unlucky because it was the day when Jesus was crucified.

The number 13 was believed to bring bad luck because there were 13 people at the Last Supper. The number 13 also has been associated with death in other cultures. The ancient Egyptians, for example, believed life unfolded in 12 stages, and the 13th stage was death. The Egyptians considered death a part of their ultimate journey and looked forward to the spiritual transformation thus 13 was not an unlucky number in their culture, but like so many others, the tradition warped through time and cultures, eventually associating the number 13 with a more negative and fearful interpretation of death. So be careful, and let the Friday the 13th “spoil” your day =)

Watch out for black cats, avoid mirrors and ladders and, by all means, don’t spill the salt.

Reaction to the resource paper

April 8, 2007

1. ” Sacrificed your memory”.
2. She used 7 sources such as:Clarke;Eberstadt;Keegan;Kharchenko;Linn;Magosci;Wells.
3. .”The war was knocking at the door, but people continued living a peaceful and careless life, as if nothing was going to happen”- i think it was the best quote from the interview.
4. “People speak so much of memory because there is little of it left.(Linn,565).- it is a very nice qoute from the source.
5. Thesis statement was written very nice, briefly and corect.Only in two words it shows the whole history and danger of that world.

“Man of steel”

April 1, 2007

Joseph Stalin was born in 1879. His mother was a peasant and his father was a cobber. He went through difficult childhood which left a mark on his life. He was an educated child and even won a scholarship and went to seminary. He accepted Marxism while he was studying there. Stalin was a follower of Lenin; he was attending his secret meeting and was distributing leaflets. Unfortunately, his life was not as clear as it supposed to be. He was arrested 8 times and exiled to Siberia, but he managed to escape 7 times. In prison, he adopted the name of Stalin, which means as “Man of steel”.
Joseph Stalin led Russian through World War Two. He was a very good organizer and he was always sure about his ambitions. Stalin could “feel” people, like an insight into who could be trusted to support him and who could not. He was a man of action rather than creative thinker.
Stalin was known as a troublemaker- a person with a fondness for stirring up resentments and suspicions among others; for provoking people into quarrels and acts of violence and in this way getting his revenge on people who had in some way offended him or stood in his path.

How did it happen?

April 1, 2007

The World War Two started on the 22d of June 1941 when Germany crossed borders invading the Soviet Union. Hitler saw the Soviet Union as military weak and ready for conquest. Hitler was always interested in the Soviet’s territory and he wanted to invade it and he did it in spring 1940. He thought that the Soviets would quickly capitulate and the war could end before winter of 1940. The war against the Soviet Union was one of a struggle of Fascism against Communism. Hitler and Stalin showed to the people terror and fear of murder. They both disregarded human life in order to achieve their goal of victory. The war inflicted a lot of losses and suffering of the population. 20 million of people were killed by Nazis. Hitler envisaged setting Germans as a master race in the Soviet Union, while he was deporting most of the people to Siberia.
Stalin did not expect Germany to start a two-front war; he ignored the warnings of the Germany. The German invasion therefore caught the Soviet military and leadership by surprise, even Stalin received a message from his spies. The pre-war strategy and decisions of the Soviet leadership and actions were unclear. The Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were ideologically driven states in which leaders had absolute power. Hitler tried to have a tight control over the war. At the crucial periods in the war he held daily conferences, where he could use his skills and show his leadership.

A test for Stalin

April 1, 2007

I have read the article that focuses on the peoples’ reaction and feelings towards Joseph Stalin.
young people hold ambivalent or even positive views of Joseph Stalin. One quarter or more of adults today say they would definitely or probably vote for Stalin if he were alive and running for president. Less than 40% said they definitely would not vote for him. A majority of population do not view Stalin–a man responsible for millions of deaths and enormous suffering–with the revulsion he deserves. American and European political leaders have failed to respond to this trend and Western policymakers prefer to ignore the news about the weakness of democracy in Russia.
The most interesting fact was that Stalin was looking only for one thing- weakness. He did not want other countries to be communist. He was concerned only that they should be weak or they should expend their strength not against him and his regime but against each other.
